The other day, I came across YouTube videos of Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi, who has just announced his candidacy for the LDP leadership race. Until then, I only knew him as a calm and serious politician at press conferences.
To my great surprise, these videos showed him not only speaking fluent English but also performing music with impressive skill. He played both the piano and the guitar while singing, and his performances were simply wonderful. His English ability has often been praised, but I had no idea that he could sing so well and accompany himself with such confidence.
This unexpected side of Hayashi revealed a striking contrast with his usual official image. The way he expressed himself through music made him seem much more approachable and human. Watching him sing and play instruments with such ease gave me a warm sense of familiarity and even admiration.
